22nd January, 2009. 4:06 pm. When I get home, I kick my shoes off -- sounds like the first line of a Country song about Office Sp

Because life feels better barefoot. Actually, that's a good point! I'm taking my shoes off at work! Right now! I'm going to Stick It To The Man! (Or at least I'll stick it to his nose!)

26th November, 2008. 11:59 am. My first job: child actor

You may know me from my roles in the background of such shows as 'Scarecrow & Mrs. King', 'Airwolf', and 'Emerald Point N.A.S.'!

From 2nd through 11th grade I would occasionally work as a movie and TV 'extra'. This was back when there was a Screen Extras Guild (like the Screen Actors Guild, but without the cool awards show or actual spoken lines). It was awesome. Once every couple months I'd get a call from my agent, Mr. Roscoe, and would get a day or two off school, working in a trailer school on the set and usually spending about 30 minutes in front of an actual camera.

Thanks to the union (err, I mean 'guild'), my sister and I would get paid the same amount as grownups, and sometimes (and I mean *sometimes*) you'd actually see enough of our faces to recognize us.

24th November, 2008. 6:30 pm. Three overplayed songs I love anyway

Apologize by Timbaland

I loved the dance routine to this song in So You Think You Can Dance last year. Hey, stop looking at me that way!

Down by the Water by PJ Harvey

I don't know what this song is about, but I like that it's getting a lot of airplay now, so long after its release.

The Final Countdown by Europe

Old, but it keeps coming back to haunt my hindbrain.

24th November, 2008. 6:29 pm. In defense of my vice: Chai + Cranberry Scone = Crazy Delicious

I used to take the train an hour to work every morning, and I've never felt more civilized or comfy than eating my scone and drinking my chai, watching the sleepy foggy world speed by. I really hit my blogging stride during that year, when I had two hours with a laptop and no internet. Now the internet is everywhere and I don't blog.

17th August, 2007. 12:59 pm. Adult survey meme

To be completed by those ADULTS out of high school.

Tired of all of those surveys made up by high school kids?
'Have you ever kissed someone?'
'Missed someone?'
'Told someone you loved them?'
'Drank alcohol?'
Here are some questions for the people who are a little more mature...

1. What bill do you hate paying the most?
Property taxes. How am I supposed to remember when to pay a bill when they send it 8 months in advance? I should really use some sort of bill calendar...

2. Where's the best place to eat a romantic dinner?
Someplace neither of you have ever been, but has been recommended. Bonus points if you go late on a weeknight and are the only ones left, and if it's in a foreign city. This Greek place Rachel and I went to in Christchurch, New Zealand is a perfect example.

3. When was the last time you puked from drinking?
Never, nope, nada, zilch.

4. Have you ever gotten drunk and danced on a bar?
Not on the same night.

5. Name of your first grade teacher?
At the beginning of the year: Miss Tayanaka. She got married halfway through the year and came back as Mrs. Matsushita (and oh how hard was it for 20 first-graders to hold their tongues when their teacher's name has 'shit' in it!)

6. What are you doing right now?
Sitting at the kitchen table at my uncle's vacation house, listening to my lovingly-caustic cousin and his wife talking about how another cousin's son has been told not to pee in the bushes.

7. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Astronaut. Even went to Space Academy (spacecamp for high-schoolers).

8. How many colleges did you attend?
Eight. In chronological order: Pierce College, University of Alabama at Huntsville, Los Angeles Valley College, USC, UCLA, Berkeley, Foothill College, Carnegie Mellon. Mind you, five of these were only for a few credits.

9. Why did you get the shirt that you have on right now?
You can never have too many plain black t-shirts, and I really like the new ones with printing under the collar instead of a scratchy label.

10. Gas prices?
Meh. I use it as a barometer for how much I dislike the current administration, irrational as that may be. I think gas is pretty cheap for the service it enables.

11. If you could go anywhere and take someone with you where would you go?
Right now Rachel and I are in one of my very favorite places (Brown Island), so it's hard to think of someplace I'd want to leave to. The San Juan County Fair is going on this week and Rachel and I are going in about an hour, so yeah, that.

12. First thought when the alarm went off this morning?
"Who do I know in the 952 area code?" No alarm since I'm on vacation, but I did get an early work call from someone who was very apologetic for bothering me on vacation, but was right to do so in this case.

13. Last thought before going to sleep last night?
"Oy! My back." My lower back was really bugging me last night and made it hard to turn over. Feeling about 40% better right now, but I'm still taking it easy. No carnival rides for me!

14. Favorite style of underwear?
Boxer-briefs.

15. Favorite style of underwear for the opposite sex?
I like to mix it up.

16. What errand/chore do you despise?
Taking out the trash. We never get to it until right before going to bed on Tuesday nights (usually about 12:30am) and it's usually as we're about to turn in and one of us goes 'Oh, right! Garbage!" followed by emptying trash cans through the house, cleaning the litter box, and dumping a ton of recyclables loudly (yet as quietly as possible) into the recycling bin before dragging the cans outside, which usually involves me moving the car out of hte driveway so we can get them past it.

17. If you didn't have to work, would you volunteer?
I volunteer now, so probably yes. :-)

18. Get up early or sleep in?
My internal alarm is usually around 7:30, though if I work to overcome it I can sleep in 'till 9 or 10.

19. Breakfast this morning?
Fiesta omelet with garlic lemon chicken I made last night for fajitas, cheese, and salsa on the side. (Thanks Rachel!!)

20. Favorite NON sexual thing to do at night with a girl/guy?
Video games.

21. A secret that you wouldn't mind everyone knowing?
That this is a dumb question.

22. When did you first start feeling old???
When I went back to Berkeley to polish off my undergrad degree and was in classes with freshmen who were in second grade when *I* was a freshman.

23. Favorite 80's movie?
Toss up between The Princess Bride and Real Genius.

24. Your favorite lunch meat?
Usually turkey, though no passionate lunch meat fondnesses in general.

25. What do you get every time you go into Costco/Sam's Club?
A pack or two of 24 AA batteries because I always seem to think we're out even though we have plenty.

26. Beach or Lake?
Right now? Rocky coastline and harbor.

27. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual that was invented by people who died at 20?
I think the reasons for the convention have changed a great deal in the last 300 years, and that people should make up their own minds about its significance and relevance. Rachel and I are engaged, but are making up our own ceremony and my uncle is the officiant. Religion doesn't play a significant role in our wedding or marriage.

28. Who do you stalk on MySpace?
I'm not on the MySpace train, but I stalk old high-school and college friends on Facebook and LinkedIn.

29. Favorite guilty pleasure?
Breyers Mint Chip ice cream and coke floats.

30. Favorite movie you wouldn't want anyone to find out about?
Oh, definitely tt0120917. (Shhh!)

31. What's your drink?
Chai (Oregon or Tazo, the 'candy' side of the Chai family).

32. Who from high school would you like to run into?
I often wonder what ever happened to Tyler and Saskia. Did they make it?

33. What radio station is your car radio tuned to right now?
Sirius 8, as it sits in long-term parking.

34. What is a rumor that someone has spread about you?
I'm sure there are plenty lately, mostly around my upcoming 3-month personal leave of absence and what it 'means'.

35. Futurama or the Simpsons?
Futurama.

36. Worst relationship mistake that you wish you could take back?
Having had anything to do with PBW. When someone tells you repeatedly that they're insane and they're only half-kidding, stay away.

Current mood: relaxed.
